Raising funds to give hope to other families facing bone cancer.

What is a Special Fund?
Our Special Funds are created either in support of a person living with primary bone cancer or in memory of a loved one who was affected by primary bone cancer. They form a positive fundraising hub, where family, friends and the wider community can join together to make a difference. By uniting our efforts, we form a stronger community that will get us closer to finding a cure for primary bone cancer.
100% of the money raised by Special Funds will be spent on funding lifesaving research, raising vital awareness, providing information and offering support to those that need it.
What do Special Funds do?
Those running Special Funds have complete control over their fundraising, you choose how you wish to raise funds and when. This could be anything from bake sales and bucket collections, to skydives and marathons or organising events such as golf days, cinema nights or music festivals!
Nothing is too big or too small, as every penny really does count in our fight against primary bone cancer. Our funds are also brilliant awareness champions, spreading the word about primary bone cancer in their local communities; helping to raise the profile and understanding of this rare disease
What help do you receive?
Kate, Siobhan, Louise and Xanthe, our Special Funds team, are on hand to support you every step of the way. We look after all your admin tasks such as the legal stuff, thanking supporters and Gift Aid so that you can concentrate solely on raising much needed funds and awareness.
We can provide you with a page on our website, your own Special Fund logo and all the materials you need to fundraise; including personalised banners, collection tins & buckets, wristbands, leaflets and even balloons to promote your fund! We are also on the other end of the phone to help with fundraising advice and ideas or just for a chat.

Setting up a Special Fund
Why should I set up a Special Fund with the Bone Cancer Research Trust?
When someone is diagnosed with primary bone cancer, family, friends and the wider community often feel helpless. Fundraising is a powerful way to bring everyone together to make a big difference. Our Special Funds provide a positive and proactive focus for raising vital funds and awareness, creating a lasting legacy for you or a loved one.
By setting up a Special Fund, you have all the benefits of being your own charity, but without the administrative hassles and costs. We deal with all the legal stuff, sort out your banking, handle Gift Aid and keep you updated on the total amount you have raised.
What can I name a fund?
Anything you like! We will discuss names with you but would always recommend it be related to the person the fund is supporting.

How much do I need to raise?
You are in complete control of your fundraising. We will talk to you about your fundraising goals and ambitions and help you set an income target which you are comfortable with. There's no minimum fundraising target, or expectation you will raise a certain amount each year. Some of our funds are very active, and some are smaller, and that's absolutely fine! Every penny you raise will help us make a difference.
Can I take a break from fundraising for a fund?
Absolutely. We understand that everyone's situation changes and that you may not always have the time to dedicate to fundraising and organising events. We will also help you to set up easy ways to raise funds so that even if you want to take a break your fund is still growing.

Where your money goes
How will I know how much I have raised and the impact it’s had?
We will send you monthly updates by email or WhatsApp so you can keep a track of your fundraising. You will also see a running total on your Special Fund web page, should you choose to have one, which we will update on a monthly basis for you.
You will be one of the first to know about any breakthroughs and news as they happen through our Special Fund monthly e-newsletter. We will also send you ad-hoc updates if you have selected a particular area of focus for your Special Fund.
The charity will absorb all the management and admin costs so you can tell your supporters that every £1 they donate will go straight to your Special Fund.
Who decides where the funding is spent?
All the funds you raise will be spent where the need is greatest in order to deliver our charitable objectives of funding pioneering research, providing information, raising awareness & offering support. All our research is subject to a stringent peer review process so you can be confident we are funding only the most promising and viable projects.
You are able to request that your funds are allocated to be spent in a particular area, such as research focusing on a specific form of primary bone cancer. If you choose to do this your funds will then be spent on research projects in this area that have been agreed through our peer review process.
