The Bone Cancer Research Trust is the charity that offers hope to people affected by primary bone cancer.

Every day in the UK, one more child, teenager or adult is diagnosed with primary bone cancer, but through a lack of research, there have been no significant improvements in treatment for nearly 40 years.
Formed in 2006 by a group of families who had lost children and young people to primary bone cancer, we are now the leading charity dedicated to fighting primary bone cancer. In the last 16 years, we have awarded £8.3 million to 141 research projects.
We continue to fund research to identify potential new ways to treat all primary bone cancers and for those affected by the disease right now, our top-quality information and supportive network means no-one has to feel alone or isolated.
How our research is impacting patients
- We funded the UK’s first ever patient registry and clinical study, ICONIC.
- We funded ground-breaking research that identified which patients with Ewing sarcoma are least likely to be cured by current standard treatment opening up the possibility of offering patients additional treatment that could increase their chance of survival.
- Our projects helped to improve surgical techniques that have gone on to increase survival rate in chondrosarcoma patients.
- Our researchers developed protocols for primary bone cancer patients to receive specialised radiotherapy and proton beam therapy.
We are committed to forging collaborations between researchers and the wider primary bone cancer community to tackle this cruel disease together. This collaborative approach has already accelerated research and made new important discoveries possible but there is still so much more we need to do to give hope to patients like Phoebe.
“When you realise osteosarcoma and bone cancer treatments haven’t really progressed in 40 years, it’s very disappointing. Until you're faced with it personally and see how little funding goes into research compared to other types of cancers, it is quite shocking”.
Laura, Phoebe’s mum
It is only with the continued support of the Bone Cancer Research Trust community that we can continue to invest into pioneering research and develop the kinder, more effective, treatments so desperately needed by our patients.
