"Guy not only took on personal challenges but encouraged everyone around him to do the same particularly when it came to fundraising whilst he was in remission."
Ros and Mike, Guy's parents
As Guy was growing up, he always enjoyed life to the full. With a wide circle of friends, he wanted to have a go at anything that was on offer and also worked hard to achieve academically. He was a keen sportsman with a good eye for the ball succeeding in football, rugby, cricket and golf. Later he took great pride in his motor bikes and then cars. He had a wonderful sense of fun playing practical jokes and holding fantastic themed fancy dress parties.

Guy was so strong and such an inspiration to everyone. He was extremely grateful for all that the medical teams had done for him, giving him the chance to enjoy an extra five and a half years of life.
Guy felt it was essential that there should be research into osteosarcoma and whilst in remission had raised thousands of pounds himself. His family and close friends had promised him they would continue to raise funds for research in his name locally but did not know how they were going to get the funds to the right place to actually start research.
In 2004 Guy’s oncologist Professor Ian Lewis brought together a small group of families who had lost young people to primary bone cancer and all knew there was practically no accessible information on bone cancer or funding for research. Guy’s parents Mike and Ros were in this group. Together they all resolved to start a charity by pooling the funds they had all already raised and by contributing their skills and time.
Guy would be thrilled to know that Bone Cancer Research Trust is now so well established, widely recognized as THE charity for all aspects of bone cancer and also carrying out his wish – research. As Guy’s parents, we are proud to have been involved from the early days of BCRT and are now delighted to see it thriving and continuing with its vital and amazing work.
