Pete's Story
I'm Pete Lloyd. 37, married with 3 children. In 2011 I was diagnosed with a high grade osteosarcoma, a primary bone cancer. I also had a hip disarticulation (full leg amputation) in October 2017.
I'm training with Stockport Wheelchair Racing at the Woodbank Memorial Park Stockport at The Stockport Harriers Track. My aim is to take on the wheelchair racing world and raise awareness and support through road and track events.
I wasn't an athlete before or after my diagnosis or surgery. In June 2018 I said I would do the next Manchester Marathon for BCRT and it all started there. Training every other day and putting kilometre after kilometre on my trip computer. After lots of hard work, I completed the marathon and raised over £2,000. After even more hard work, on the 7th Sept 2019, I classified as a T54 wheelchair athlete at Stoke Mandeville.
Life after bone cancer will never be "normal" but we have found our new normal. I want more bone cancer patients and their families to find their new normals. To try new challenges and not feel like they're unable to do things. To #PushForACure and join in being out of their comfort zones, to help raise as much awareness and funding as possible.
