Miles' Story

We've always said that Miles had it all - and before his diagnosis, he said it himself: 'I'm living my best life.' Always sporty, cheeky, funny and loving, Miles could talk to anyone and was a hugely loved son, brother, and friend.

In November 2021, we received the devastating news that Miles' sore knee, which had been bothering him for a while and was put down to sporting injuries, was actually osteosarcoma.

That day changed everything for Miles - he was a talented sportsman who played football for Whitstable Town FC, cricket for Simon Langton Boys School and Whitstable Cricket Club, and played roller hockey for Herne Bay Roller Club from the age of 4.

The months that followed were gruelling with Miles facing intensive and invasive treatments and surgeries. Miles underwent several rounds of chemotherapy (MAP + IE) and a full amputation of his left leg at the hip.  But, in true Miles fashion, he impressed his physio every day and was quickly up and playing darts.

We had a precious summer with post-surgery scans showing no evidence of active disease. Miles went on holiday, learned to walk with a prosthetic, and returned to school.

Sadly that didn't last, and the cancer spread to Miles' lungs and spine.

Miles died on New Year's Eve 2022.

Supporting Team Miles Forever Fund

#TeamMiles is made up of Miles' family, friends, and many team-mates who have shared in his journey and are so deeply affected by his suffering, and subsequent death.

In raising vital funds for BCRT, we sincerely hope that children and young people in the future can look forward to kinder treatment options and better outcomes.

This fund is a lasting reminder to be a bit more like Miles every day; fun, fearless and bold...

"Miles wanted everyone to live their best lives, we will try to do that, in his memory.  Please donate what you can".
