Ted's Story

In 2008, our world was shattered when we received the gut-wrenching news that our youngest son, Ted, had been diagnosed with the rare bone cancer, Ewing Sarcoma. This blindsiding revelation unleashed a tsunami of emotions, signalling the onset of a tumultuous journey that would push our strength and resilience to their limits.

Come May 2009, Ted’s dad, Owen orchestrated a charity 20-20 cricket match to give back to the organisations that had been our lifeline during Ted’s treatment. Inspired by Ted’s spirit and the essence of cricket, we fondly named the event ‘Teddy20,’ unwittingly marking the beginning of our journey toward establishing our own charitable organisation.

"Despite Ted’s brave fight against the malevolent force of cancer, he peacefully passed away in June 2010 at the tender age of 10"

Teddy20

Following Ted’s passing in June 2010, our hearts were engulfed in an immeasurable grief, and the void left by his absence seemed insurmountable. Yet, amidst the pain, an unwavering determination took root — a determination to carry on Ted’s legacy and the spirit of generosity that had touched our lives during his illness.

Gradually, our roles transformed from grief-stricken parents, to passionate advocates for children and families affected by cancer. We founded Teddy20, a charity providing emotional and financial support to children and young people undergoing treatment for cancer in the South of England.

Today, as Teddy20 persists in its mission, we find solace and purpose in knowing that Ted’s memory lives on through the lives touched and the positive change brought about by our collective efforts.

Teddy Rocks

Ted's brother Tom founded the Teddy Rocks Festival in 2011, a modest pub gig organised to honour his brother, to continue to raise funds to support children receiving treatment for cancer.

Today, Teddy Rocks is an award winning, family friendly, 3-day festival that takes place over the early May Bank Holiday weekend in Charisworth Farm, Blanford Forum, Dorset

The Festival raises money for Teddy20 and its partner cancer charities, including Ted's Legacy, a Special Fund on the Bone Cancer Research Trust.

"Teddy Rocks has a really important job to do, it's more than just a festival." Tom Newton

Supporting BCRT through Ted's Leagcy

The Newton family have been supporting the Bone Cancer Research Trust since 2009. Their incredible fundraising continues to bring hope to children and young people with primary bone cancer. Their donations help to fund life-saving bone cancer research , in Ted’s memory.

"The story of Teddy20 and Teddy Rocks isn’t just about loss; it’s a deeply personal narrative of resilience, hope, and the enduring impact of a young boy’s courageous battle against cancer. We are incredibly proud of the donations we have made to Ted's Legacy over the years. We know how important these funds are, from having first-hand experience of losing Ted" The Newton Family
